About the Motor Insurers Bureau
The Motor Insurers Bureau, or MIB as it is often referred to, was set up to ensure that victims of road traffic accidents involving uninsured or untraceable drivers receive compensation. All insurance companies who underwrite car insurance are required by law to be members of the MIB and contribute to their compensatory fund.
If you have been a victim of an accident where the driver of a vehicle was uninsured or where the driver could not be traced (in cases of hit and run for example) then you could be able to submit a claim through either the MIB's Uninsured or Untraced Driver's Agreements.

Claiming Compensation through the Motor Insurers Bureau's Untraced Driver Agreement
If you have been the victim of a road traffic accident but could not get the details of the driver or vehicle that was involved, you could claim compensation through the MIB's Untraced Driver Agreement if:
- The accident happened less than 3 years ago (for injuries);
- The police was informed within 14 days of the accident.
The MIB will then investigate your claim and come to an agreement as to how much compensation will be awarded. You can submit an MIB claim personally, or use a solicitor to submit the claim on your behalf. If you would like assistance in submitting a claim under the MIB's Untraced Driver Agreement, contact us on 0800 037 1260 or complete our online claim form.

Claiming Compensation under the Motor Insurers Bureau Uninsured Driver Agreement
If you have been the victim of a road traffic accident where the driver of the vehicle involved was not insured to drive that car (they were under the legal age or had no insurance), you might be able to submit a claim through the MIB's Uninsured Driver Agreement. When no insurance was in place, the MIB effectively acts as an insurance company and will evaluate your claim accordingly.
The process of claiming under the MIB's Uninsured Driver Agreement can be time consuming. You can submit a claim directly through the MIB website or instruct a solicitor to act on your behalf. Contact us on 0800 037 1260. We will assess your claim and if applicable act on your behalf to claim compensation.
